About Me
I'm a Melbourne boy, hailing from St Kilda with one ex, one current wife and four kids. Love the outdoors and making new discoveries. I cook a lot at home (cheers from wife) and do some preserving, mostly jams, pickles and fruit liqueurs. This is the diary of a cooking journey.

I Can Read Your Mind
Melbourne has got it's first Krispy Kreme doughnut store in Narre Warren. There was a centrespread in Epicure about it.

My daughter rings up.

"Dad, you aren't going to Narre Warren by any chance today?"

"You want some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, don't you?"

"How did you know that?"

"I'm your dad, I know everything."

Run away. They're not called KK for nuthin. The other evil K stands for Koronary.

Hi reb, if Homer Simpson loves them they can't be all that bad, can they?

So did you go, I'm dying for some but must admit to be loo lazy to drive that far just for donuts. Trying to convince some unsuspecting sucker to do a KK run for the office!

Hi paz, having super powers is not all it's cracked up to be!

Hi ange, Funny you should ask. My work partner had some business in Narre Warren, so I asked him to pick some up. He got to Fountain Gate but couldn't find the shop anywhere, even after asking. On the news that night I saw the shop was outside, we didn't think of looking there! After seeing a picture of them in Epicure, some of them look a lot like paczki(pronounced pon-shki), the Polish doughnut. If it's a bit closer, Europa cake shop in Acland Street sell good ones, around 9.30 Sunday morning they are just out of the oven too. BTW did you know that Renix have a Polish monday, check it out at http://www.renix.com.au/news.htm

on the radio yesterday they had this phone in about things you regret, one caller stated that he regretted spending 3 hours in line at the drive through at KK in Narre Warren - and he still hadn't got to the top of the line!

That is a bit freaky. This is like the third or fourth time you've blogged about something I just did or was just discussing with Rob.

This morning I took my kids to Krispy Kreme for a fun little tour. (they take you in the back and show you all the neat mixers and 50 lb. boxes of shortening....then you get to make your own donut)

Gotta love those Krispy Kreme!

Hi haalo, somehow I don't think a three hour wait is worth it.

Hi angela, kinda spooky isn't it!!!

There's a whole lotta hype involved in the cult of Krispy Kremes, methinks. We tried them when they first opened here and yeah, they're fresh and yummy and all but...they are still just donuts, right? 11 billion trans-fat calories of artery clogging goo? A tasty treat now and again, but not worth driving for, and certainly not 3 hours in line! :)

Hi gigi, you're right, they are just doughnuts. Isn't it wonderful what a little cult status can do for you.
