About Me
I'm a Melbourne boy, hailing from St Kilda with one ex, one current wife and four kids. Love the outdoors and making new discoveries. I cook a lot at home (cheers from wife) and do some preserving, mostly jams, pickles and fruit liqueurs. This is the diary of a cooking journey.

A Simple Pleasure

Ordinarily, I'm not a great fan of crayfish. But this prehistoric looking creature might just have changed my mind. It's 1.5kg of Pt Campbell's finest. Spiky customer. No claws like a lobster, but the antenna have some nice meat, careful though.

Whoever cooked it judged things to a tee, moist and juicy with a slight salty tang.

Maybe the glass of Prosecco helped things along, or the gently warm summer's night, just sitting with friends on a secluded deck in a quiet country town after a hard day's driving, sharing one of Davy Jone's sweetest treasures.

Sometimes, life's good.

As my dad used to pun, "See food and eat it!"

Looks delicious.

Hi tanna, that memory has joined my gallery of glad to be alive moments. Funny how things can just fall into place without any planning.

Hi kh, it was really good. Bet your dad knows something pithy about wombats too.

Hi Neil-I'm with you can take it or leave it in fact I prefer crab every time. However I my arm can always be twisted..
We call em crays but in fact they are officially known as Southern Rock Lobster. I think cray might have morphed from the American Craw which is not unlike an Ecrivisses or langoustine but not a lobster. The US Maine Lobster has claws like its celebrated Scottish cousin, known colloquially as the Breaker & both are a bluey-greeny-grey in colour before cooking in which case all of em turn red.

Hi steve, good information, thanks. Do you know if it's true that the Scottish lobster is superior to its American cousin as reputed?

When I was a boy, I had a fishing book that stated cray tails were a great bait for snapper. Reckon these days, it's the other way around.
